No Sankat Mochan in sight!

Well...it was as easy as predicting that Sun will rise tomorrow! The bomb blast in Varanasi's Sankat Mochan Temple and the rising communal temperature in Uttar Pradesh were waiting to happen. For the past several blogs, I have been screaming at the top of my lungs about the rampant Muslim appeasement on display. And now this has reached the next level, where terrorists and political parties would jump into the fray and milk the communal situation to their advantage.

Firstly, it was so damn predictable. Congress government at the center and the Samajwadi party were racing past each other to woo Muslims in Uttar Pradesh. Check these out!.....Arjun Singh's misadventures with AMU's minority quota/status, Muslim reservation in Andhra Pradesh, Attack on Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, Killing of Mohammadabad BJP MLA allegedly by goon/MLA Mukhtar Ansari, subsequent riots in Mau, the non-chalance with which the almost defunct BJP won the communally polarised re-election there, Sardar government's tinkering with the IMDT/Foreigner's act in Assam, headcount of muslims in Armed Forces, creation of a 'Minorities' ministry at the center, the so called "Muslim opposition" to India's vote against Iran, the UP Haj minister's 50 crore reward for the Danish cartoonist's head and the fact that he is still a minister, the enormous turnouts at the anti-US and cartoon protests organised by Islamic fundamentalist orgainzations, display of Osama Bin Laden's posters at those rallies, the riots following that rally at Lucknow, the almost fist fight among UPA constituents to table the Banerjee committee report in parliament....well, I'm tired listing them.

So its only a miracle that we are not having blood bath on the streets of Uttar Pradesh. But then we may not be far too away from that scenario! Every single player in this act is doing the wrong thing! BJP/Sangh and the Samajwadi party will be glad to have communal riots, Sardar government is matching SP's every step in appeasement (I guess they may be rethinking their strategy since they have overplayed their hand and this may boomerang on them now), BSP would like the Muslim vote divided among Congress and SP though it will be vary of a BJP resurgence and finally the Media has all along failed to expose the rampant minoritism and won't be complaining the advent of some hot and spicy riot stories. As terrorists and politicians prowl for the kill, the hapless citizen on the street can only pray for Sankat Mochan!

Well, I guess that's India in a nutshell. In my opinion, BJP is probably the only secular party in the country. After the Babri Masjid demolition, they've all been eager to try and get rid of the "communal right wing party" image. Congress is openly supporting minorities in the country. Reservations for muslims is the most absurd thing I've heard of. As if reservation based on caste wasn't enough, now it's based on religion! What next? I for one, am afraid of what the answer to that question is going to be.
